1 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” In the life of every true believer, at one time or another, there is a truth which goes unrealized. It is the profound assurance God is not the author of a spirit of fear. Now, it is true, we must demonstrate an awe of God; a reverence for who He is, which, sad to say, is not the picture of the modern church. However, the spirit of fear which causes one to worry or to be anxious and distrusting in God’s ability, is not from God. Understand, when one is suddenly overwhelmed by such a spirit, by such a feeling, we must know the source of this feeling. It is from the enemy of our souls; the one First Peter describes as our adversary. When such a feeling begins to rise within you, remember “whose” you are and whatever the enemy may be telling you at that moment in time causing this fear, is a lie and his intentions are NOT for your benefit. Remember what God HAS given you: He has given you power, He has given you His love, and He has given you self-control. God will preserve you through faith in Jesus even in the storm. Resist the lie of your adversary which causes your fear.
